Power for 2,600 homes from Eccleshall Biomass generator

Eccleshall Biomass LogoEccleshall Biomass is pioneering a £6.5 million scheme to develop the UK’s first successful bio-energy power plant in Staffordshire.

At the centre of this groundbreaking project is a 2.6 megawatt generator, fuelled by miscanthus – ‘elephant grass’ - and other biomass materials.

When fully commissioned in Summer 2007, the plant will generate enough electricity to run the local town of Eccleshall or 2,600 average households.

Eccleshall BiomassIt will also boost the rural economy by creating local jobs and enabling farms to diversify into energy crops.

With a £500,000 grant from the Dti Bio-Energy Capital Grant Fund and £1 Million from Advantage West Midlands, the power plant is of major importance to rural industry, not just in Staffordshire but across the whole country.
