Personal Support Assistant

£6.89 to £7.87 per hr

Responsible to: Team Leaders
Overall Aim of the Job:-
To be aware of the philosophy and general policy of The ExtraCare Charitable Trust, and to be committed to its aims and objectives within the Scheme/Village.
To ensure the provision of the day to day assistance to approximately 50-60 frail elderly residents who are in receipt of a support package, with due respect for their individual needs and independence.
To ensure the provision of the night care assistance to the residents on a support package, who are in need.
To maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the village.
Responsibilities
Residents Welfare and support:-
To provide all aspects of personal care to residents in receipt of a support package, in accordance with their individual needs.
To promote the physical , emotional and intellectual well being of these residents in all aspects of personal care, e.g. dressing, washing, bathing, mobility assistance where necessary and administration of medicine.
To encourage each resident to be as independent as possible in all aspects of living.
To assist in the provision of day care/night care facilities.
To work closely with family, friends and volunteers for the general well being of the resident.
To maintain a respectful relationship with all other residents not on support, who wish to lead an independent existence.
Key workers:-
- To act as a key worker to identified Residents, being involved in assessments, case conferences and reviews.
- Gathers thorough knowledge of Resident’s personal lives, physical, emotional wants and needs.
- Develops effective relationships with Resident’s family and friends, and avidly completes and updates Books of Life, and promotes and organizes achievement of ambitions.
Activities:-
- Encourage Resident’s to take part in daily exercise.
- Make Resident’s aware on a daily basis of what activities are taking place or being organised, and encourage them to attend.
- Promotes ExtraCare’s Traditions and Going 4 Gold and actively participates.
- Escorting residents, where it is identified in their Support Plan, to and from appointments in the Village centre, e.g. hairdresser, gym, wellbeing, activities and entertainment
- When Residents have external medical appointments, accompanying them from their apartment to the entrance of the Village and meeting them there upon their return. Ensure that they have the appropriate paperwork, appointment cards etc.
Daily Reports and Support Plans:-
- Regular completion of daily reports and contact sheets promptly and accurately.
- To pay particular attention to and be involved in the Residents support and support plans, ensuring they are regularly updated and reviewed.
- Involvement with Resident’s assessments, developing the support plan and ensuring the plan meets the needs of each Resident.
Cleaning Routines:-
- To follow daily and weekly cleaning schedules as designed to suit the needs of the residents on support.
- To be alert to taking initiative where necessary to ensure that the Village is maintained to a very high standard of cleanliness and comfort at all time.
- To assist with or undertake, according to the individual residents needs, personal laundry including bedding.
- To use appropriate methods to clean carpets, hard surfaces, furniture, bathrooms, toilets, kitchens and windows according to the requirements of the cleaning routine schedule.
- To use an appropriate method to clean soft furnishings, including washable curtains.
- To dispose of all rubbish in the designated external bins.
Health & Safety
- To ensure that all work is carried out in line with Health & Safety policies and COSHH regulations.
- To be alert for hazards for self, other staff, residents and visitors and to report such findings immediately.
Training:-
Completes all statutory and mandatory training required to carry out this post, as prescribed by ExtraCare.
Develops a good understanding of policies and procedures which must be adhered to at all times.
This post is subject to receipt of two satisfactory written references, medical screening, POVA, police check and Home Office right to work clearance.
