Catering Assistant

15 hrs per week
£6.48 per hr

Location: St Oswald's Village
Responsible to:
Head Chef / Chef

Overall Aim of the Job:-

To contribute to the support offered to residents by helping to provide a meal service to cover main meal or all meals according to the current arrangements in the Scheme / Village.

Main Duties:-

Kitchen, Stores and Equipment

  • To maintain kitchen and food stores in a clean and tidy condition.
  • To receive and check deliveries of stores, chilled and frozen meals etc.
  • To record the temperature of chilled and frozen meals on arrival and transfer immediately to cold store.

Menus

  • To help plan menus in advance in conjunction with the Chef/Head Chef and the Residents.
  • To ensure a balanced diet is achieved for all Residents.
  • To ensure that instructions concerning special diets are rigorously followed.

Preparation of Main Meal

  • To help to provide a main meal daily for all Residents, according to the process used in the Scheme / Village.
  • To check the temperature of chilled/frozen meals before and after cooking.

Service of Main Meal

  • To ensure that tables are set and the main meal is presented in an appealing way, and to ensure that the meal/s are served to the residents at the correct  temperature.
  • To clear away fully after the main meal/other meals.

Health and Safety

  • To ensure that all environment health regulations concerning food handling, hygiene and preparation are strictly complied with.
  • To report sightings of pests immediately to the Manager, Head Chef/Chef.
  • To be alert to hazards for self, other staff and residents, and to report immediately.

Training

  • To take part in training on all parts of the job description, statutory, mandatory and any other training which may be requested from time to time.

Resident Welfare and Support

  • To build and maintain good relationships with residents and their relatives, while adhering strictly to the requirement for confidentiality.

Laundry

  • To ensure that all overalls, tea towels and kitchen cloths are kept laundered and clean.

Quality Promotion

  • To pay careful attention to customer requirements and to deal promptly with customer complaints.
  • To promote quality control procedures including involving residents in menu planning.

Other Duties

  • To undertake any other duties which may be required from time to time.
  • This post is subject to a satisfactory medical clearance, POVA and CRB checks and two written references.
